Coal (2023): Fuel, Renewal, and Reflection

The Coal Collection followed a pivotal turning point in my journey—leaving behind my job to pursue life as a full-time artist. Created in this moment of uncertainty and freedom, the works reflect on cycles of energy, transformation, and perspective. Coal, as both material and metaphor, represents fuel, endurance, and the spark of renewal.

The palette is dark yet luminous, with deep blacks, earthy tones, and glowing highlights—echoing the life cycle of flame, from ember to ash to rebirth. Figures, often fragmented or zoomed-in, emerge from these depths with quiet strength, their forms shaped by the influence of collage, graphic cut-out lines, and life drawings reimagined.

Coal is both reflective and forward-looking: a meditation on how far I’ve come, and the energy it takes to keep creating, transforming, and burning brightly. For collectors, it offers works of depth and contemplation—pieces that speak of cycles, resilience, and the beauty of change.
